Celanese, Clariant Say Dutch Court Dismissed Shell Damage Claim — Update

Celanese and Clariant said a Dutch court had dismissed a damages claim brought by Shell against the the two companies and other defendants related to alleged competition-law infringement.

Swiss chemical company Clariant said late Wednesday that the ruling from the Amsterdam District Court confirmed its position that Shell suffered no harm because of Clariant.

Shares in Clariant surged to a one-year high following the news, climbing more than 17% to above 9 Swiss francs.

Celanese said Thursday that the court dismissed the claim brought by Shell, and also said the same court dismissed a claim from Spain's Repsol seeking a declaratory judgment of liability of Celanese and its co-defendants.

Neither Shell nor Repsol responded immediately to requests for comment.
