RWE Settles U.S. Offshore-Wind Claims for $1.2 Billion
By Joshua Kirby
Germany's RWE said it reached a settlement with the U.S. government to receive $1.22 billion in order to resolve claims regarding leases for offshore-wind projects.
The energy firm said it had determined there was no way forward in the foreseeable future to develop the projects, for which it had been granted the leases and in which it had invested more than $1 billion.
"The company determined that this resolution best serves the interests of its stakeholders and allows it to direct resources toward energy projects that can be advanced with certainty," RWE said.
The U.S. Interior Department didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
