Wheaton Precious Metals 2Q Revenue Rises on Higher Gold Prices

By Kelly Cloonan

Wheaton Precious Metals logged higher revenue in its latest quarter, benefiting from higher average gold prices.

The Canadian precious metals streaming company on Thursday posted a second-quarter profit of $543.2 million, or $1.19 a share, compared with $292.3 million, or 64 cents a share, a year earlier.

Adjusted earnings per share were $1.19, topping estimates of $1.14 a share according to analysts polled by FactSet.

Revenue surged 85% to $929.2 million, above analysts' forecast of $879.3 million.

The company attributed the topline growth to a 61% increase in the average realized gold equivalent price.

Chief Executive Haytham Hodaly said Wheaton had solid production across its portfolio in the quarter, driving record year-to-date production, sales volumes, revenue and earnings despite cost pressures and volatile commodity prices.
