E.ON Posts Rise in Earnings, Continues Grid Investments

By Adam Whittaker

E.ON backed its guidance for the year after posting a rise in first-half earnings, and said it continues to invest in European energy infrastructure as battery storage systems and data centers proliferate.

The Germany-based electric utility group booked adjusted net profit--which excludes exceptional and other one-off items and is a company-preferred metric--of 1.92 billion euros, equivalent to $2.22 billion, from the 1.83 billion euros it booked in the same period last year.

Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization rose to 5.4 billion euros from 5.33 billion euros, helped by its core energy networks division. Its energy infrastructure solutions' business posted a 19% rise to about 390 million euros, it said.

E.ON invested 3 billion euros over the period, and said it continues to expect to invest around 8.7 billion euros over the year, including in energy infrastructure.

E.ON said it continues to expect adjusted earnings of 9.4 billion to 9.6 billion euros for the full year. Adjusted net income is seen between 2.7 billion and 2.9 billion euros.
