Valneva Shares Climb After Lyme Disease Vaccine Receives EMA Application Acceptance
By Connor Hart
Shares of Valneva were higher after the company said the European Medicines Agency validated the marketing authorization application for its Lyme disease vaccine candidate.
The stock climbed 26%, to $7.11, in premarket trading Friday. Through Thursday's close, shares have lost more than a third of their value year to date.
The EMA will begin its assessment of the application for the vaccine candidate, PF-07307405, which is being developed with Pfizer, whose shares are flat in premarket trading.
The companies said the application is based on encouraging results from a late-stage trial of the vaccine, which investigated whether the candidate prevented Lyme disease cases in individuals aged five years and older.
The vaccine was well tolerated in the trial, with no safety concerns identified, they added.
"I'm proud of the progress we have made with our Lyme disease vaccine candidate and excited about the opportunity to potentially bring the first vaccine of its kind to Europe," said Annaliesa Anderson, senior VP and chief vaccines officer at Pfizer.
