LG, Nvidia to Unveil Jointly Developed Humanoid Robot Next Year
By Kwanwoo Jun
South Korea's LG Group and U.S. technology giant Nvidia are jointly developing a humanoid robot, expanding their collaboration in physical artificial intelligence.
The next-generation bipedal humanoid robot will be unveiled in the first quarter of 2027, LG said Friday, after the companies signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in robotics and other AI projects at Nvidia's headquarters in Santa Clara, Calif., on Thursday.
The robot will be powered by Nvidia's Isaac GR00T foundation model and Jetson Thor computing platform. LG subsidiaries--including LG Electronics, LG Innotek and LG Energy Solution--will supply actuators, sensors and batteries for the humanoid.
Under the deal, LG will establish an AI factory pilot site powered by Nvidia's Vera Rubin platform in the first half of 2027. The project could pave the way for an 80-megawatt AI factory to be built in Cheonan, South Korea, by the first half of 2028.
The South Korean conglomerate said it also plans to develop a high-performance computing platform for AI-defined vehicles using Nvidia's DRIVE Hyperion, expanding its auto-component business into autonomous driving.
Separately, LG Group plans to deploy CLOiD wheel-based robots at an LG Electronics washing machine manufacturing line in Tennessee this year for real-world validation.
The conglomerate will also develop a robot data platform with its AI transformation services affiliate LG CNS to support continuous data collection, synthetic data generation, training and verification for robotics.
