Four U.S. Companies Pledge $2 Billion Investments in South Korea
By Kwanwoo Jun
Four U.S. companies have pledged a combined $2 billion in direct investments in South Korea spanning semiconductors, advanced materials and renewable energy.
South Korea's industry ministry said Friday that the investment commitments were announced by chip-making equipment supplier Axcelis Technologies, industrial-gases supplier Air Products, materials maker Corning and renewable-energy developer Pacifico Energy at a ceremony in Washington on Thursday.
Axcelis Technologies, Air Products and Corning plan to expand production facilities in South Korea, while Pacifico Energy will advance a 3.2-gigawatt offshore wind-power project in southwestern South Korea to support a new semiconductor manufacturing hub, the ministry said.
