Disney Entertainment Promotes Smith, Earley to New Roles

By Elias Schisgall

Disney is appointing Adam Smith to chairman of direct-to-consumer for Disney Entertainment and Joe Earley to a newly-created position of president, Disney Entertainment Television franchise and content strategy.

Smith, a Google and YouTube alum, joined Disney in 2024 and most recently served as co-president, direct-to-consumer and chief product and technology officer for Disney Entertainment and ESPN. In his new role, he will oversee the company's global streaming business, including Disney+ and Hulu.

Earley joined the company in 2019, and most recently served as co-president, direct-to-consumer and head of content strategy. He has also served as president of Hulu. His new role will involve overseeing the strategic development of Disney Entertainment's television franchises.

The new appointments follow an earlier leadership overhaul at Disney Entertainment in March, led by Disney President and Chief Creative Officer Dana Walden. That restructuring included the appointments of Smith and Earley as co-presidents of direct-to-consumer and Debra OConnell as chairman of Disney Entertainment Television.
