Amazon to Invest $1.9 Billion in Delivery Service Partner Program

By Elias Schisgall

Amazon will invest $1.9 billion into its Delivery Service Partner program, a move it expects to boost pay for delivery drivers.

The company said that the investment would help its delivery partners attract and retain employees.

"We anticipate that over the past three years these investments will have helped DSP owners increase driver pay by an average of 16% nationwide, with national average earnings rising by roughly another $1 to nearly $24 per hour," Amazon Vice President of Transportation Beryl Tomay wrote in a Monday blog post.

Amazon also said it was rolling out new surround-view cameras, which are expected to be installed in half of Rivian electric delivery vehicles across its network by the end of the year, as well as new hazard alerts in its delivery app.

The company said it has so far invested upwards of $543 million in safety initiatives for delivery partners, adding that serious vehicle crashes in its network fell more than 23% last year.

Amazon is also scaling its deployment of its Amazon Smart Delivery Glasses, which use artificial-intelligence to provide real-time navigation suggestions and delivery details to drivers. It expects to have more than 20,000 devices deployed by the end of 2027.

The company also said it is committing $70 million over five years toward community initiatives led by DSPs.
