Kuehne+Nagel Strikes Deal With Amazon For Supply Chain, Cloud Capabilities

By Aimee Look

Logistics company Kuehne+Nagel struck a deal with Amazon to bolster its role in data center infrastructure and strengthen the American tech giant's customer service capabilities.

The Swiss company said Monday that the long-term partnership with Amazon builds on an existing relationship and is designed to support business future opportunities.

K+N shares rose around 3.1% in early morning European trade.

Under the deal, Amazon is granted a call option on K+N's existing shares tied to commercial milestones or services. The call option, which Amazon can settle in cash or shares, is for up to seven years, K+N said.

K+N said the partnership includes Amazon Web Services, which encompasses equipment deployment, maintenance and upgrades.

"We are setting the foundation for a new level of customer service commitment at a global scale for Amazon," said Stefan Paul, CEO of Kuehne+Nagel International AG.

The intensified relationship will likely accelerate K+N's growth in the profitable data-center infrastructure logistics business, analysts at Vontobel say in a note.
