Geely Unveils AI-Powered Battery Charging System Amid Fierce EV Competition
By Jiahui Huang
Chinese automaker Geely Automobile unveiled an AI-powered charging system Wednesday as Chinese automakers compete to reduce battery charging times.
Geely said the system uses a model developed with Chinese AI startup StepFun to predict battery temperatures up to 30 seconds ahead and adjust charging power.
The company said the system can keep the battery's average temperature below 55 degrees Celsius during charging and its peak temperature below 65 degrees Celsius.
In what Geely described as real-world tests, the battery used in the Lynk & Co 10 and Zeekr 001 charged from 10% to 70% in four minutes and 30 seconds, and from 10% to 97% in eight minutes and 40 seconds.
The company described those results as its fastest charging performance yet for production-ready vehicles.
The company also unveiled a charging station with a stated peak power output of 2,250 kilowatts.
The announcement follows a leadership change at Geely: An Conghui recently succeeded Li Shufu as chief executive.
