Revolut Wins Approval to Buy Banco Cetelem in Argentina

By Michael Hennessey

Revolut has received approval from the Central Bank of Argentina to buy local bank Banco Cetelem Argentina from BNP Paribas.

The digital bank said the regulatory nod is a key milestone for the company in Argentina.

Revolut first outlined the acquisition of the Argentinian lender in June 2025. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Following completion of the transaction, the bank's name will be changed to Revolut Bank Argentina SAU. It will operate as a regulated banking entity, but won't initially offer public-facing products or services.

During this phase, Revolut said the bank would complete all regulatory and operational requirements while preparing for a future market launch.

Revolut said Argentina is one of its most promising growth opportunities in Latin America. The fintech said over 150,000 customers have joined its waitlist since it announced plans to enter Argentina.

The company recently launched Revolut Bank in Mexico, its first fully licensed banking entity outside Europe. Earlier this month, it received conditional approval for a U.S. national bank charter.

Upon closing, Agustin Danza will be appointed as chief executive officer of Revolut Bank Argentina, subject to standard regulatory approvals.
