TotalEnergies, Adnoc's XRG and Socar to Increase Production at Azerbaijan's Absheron Field

By Najat Kantouar

TotalEnergies plans to launch the full field development of the Absheron gas and condensate field in Azerbaijan along with the country's energy firm Socar and Adnoc's XRG.

The French oil-and-gas company said the project is expected to raise total field production to 6 billion cubic meters of gas per year and 47,000 barrels of condensate per day. The project is set to begin in 2029.

The decision follows a first development phase in 2023 with a production capacity of 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year and 12,000 barrels of condensate per day, it said.

The gas will supply both Azerbaijan's domestic market and Turkey through existing gas infrastructure connecting Azerbaijan to the European gas market.

TotalEnergies holds a 35% interest in the Absheron gas and condensate field, while Socar and XRG have a 35% and 30% stake, respectively.
