Samsung Electro-Mechanics to Invest About $5 Billion in South Korea, Vietnam

By Kwanwoo Jun

Samsung Electro-Mechanics plans to invest about $5.0 billion to expand chip-substrate production in South Korea and Vietnam amid growing artificial intelligence-driven demand.

The planned investment marks the company's largest-ever investment for a single product, the South Korean electronics-component supplier said in regulatory filings after the market's close Monday.

The company will spend a total of 6.78 trillion won, equivalent to $4.99 billion, for the new investment. That includes 4.27 trillion won to expand production facilities in Sejong, in central South Korea, and 2.51 trillion won through its Vietnam unit to expand production there, it said.

The investment, to be made from 2026 through 2028, comes as demand for flip-chip ball grid array, or FCBGA, substrates grows rapidly amid the expansion of AI servers and high-performance computing markets.
