Eli Lilly Says Zepbound Delivers Greater Weight Loss Than Higher-Dose Version of Novo's Wegovy
By Kelly Cloonan
Eli Lilly says certain doses of its injectable GLP-1 drug Zepbound delivered greater weight loss than a higher-dose version of rival Novo Nordisk's Wegovy in a recent analysis.
In an indirect treatment comparison, participants taking 10 milligram and 15 milligram doses of Zepbound lost 3.2% and 4.5% more of their body weight on average at 72 weeks, respectively, than those taking Wegovy HD, Lilly said Tuesday.
The analysis drew data from two separate trials to compare Zepbound with Wegovy HD, a higher, 7.2 milligram dose of the drug that was approved by the Food and Drug Administration earlier this year.
The analysis comes as Lilly and Novo remain in fierce competition in the market for GLP-1 drugs.
Lilly said the analysis adds to growing evidence that shows Zepbound is more effective in helping people lose weight than Wegovy.
In a previous head-to-head trial, the 10 milligram and 15 milligram doses of Zepbound showed greater weight loss than 1.7 milligram and 2.4 milligram doses of Wegovy, Lilly said.
