Carlyle to Buy Nidec's Industrial Equipment Parts Unit for $650 Million
By Kosaku Narioka
Nidec Corp. has agreed to sell an industrial equipment parts unit to Carlyle Group for about $650 million, in a bid to revamp its business portfolio and focus on its key growth areas.
The Japanese maker of electric motors and other equipment said Thursday it would sell the subsidiary, Nidec Components, to a Carlyle entity for 102.98 billion yen, equivalent to $654.2 million.
Nidec said large-scale capital expenditures and research and development investments are required in the semiconductor-manufacturing-equipment and robot markets, where Nidec Components operates.
Nidec said the sale is expected to be completed on Dec. 1.
