BBVA Hikes Interim Dividend By 16%

By Michael Hennessey

Spain's BBVA raised its interim dividend by nearly 16% to 37 euro cents per share, equivalent to 42 U.S. dollar cents.

The bank--formally called Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria--said Thursday that the dividend, up from 32 euro cents per share a year ago, is the highest interim payout in its history. It will be paid on Oct 15.

In total the bank will distribute around 2.0 billion euros to its shareholders, BBVA added.

In July, BBVA said it made a net profit of 3.06 billion euros for the second quarter compared with 2.75 billion euros for the same period last year.
