Glencore Gets Approval for Agua Rica Project in Argentina
By Ian Walker
Glencore said it received approval for the Agua Rica project in Argentina ahead of restarting operations at the Alumbrera processing plant.
The miner and commodity trader said Friday it expects first production at Alumbrera to start in the first half of next year, a year ahead of original guidance.
Approval for the project was granted under the Incentive Regime for Large Investments, or RIGI.
"RIGI approval is a significant milestone for MARA [Minera Agua Rica - Alumbrera] and a clear sign of confidence in Argentina's long-term investment framework," Glencore Argentina Chief Executive Martin Perez de Solay said.
The Agua Rica Project is a copper, gold, silver and molybdenum deposit located in the province of Catamarca, Argentina.
