CDC: Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Jalapeños Is Over
By Josh Beckerman
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said a salmonella outbreak linked to jalapeños is over.
The CDC said there were 488 total cases, including 65 hospitalizations, compared with a case count of 431 as of Aug. 19. Out of 308 people interviewed, 281 reported eating at a Mexican-style restaurant before their illness, including Chipotle Mexican Grill and Qdoba, the CDC said.
Chipotle switched its supplier in July. Qdoba temporarily removed fresh and pickled jalapeños from all U.S. restaurants.
Several companies including Taylor Fresh Foods recalled products such as guacamole and salsa after Coast Citrus Distributors recalled jalapeños from Sinaloa, Mexico.
The Food and Drug Administration said Friday that its investigation has closed.
