Ubisoft Has Less-Attractive Games Than Peers and Has Badly Struggled, but Its Franchises Have Value

Ubisoft develops and publishes top-quality video games and has perpetual cloud-streaming rights to Call of Duty and other Activision Blizzard games across most of the world. In 2025, Ubisoft spun its three biggest and most important franchises—Assassin’s Creed, Rainbow Six, and Far Cry—into a subsidiary in which Tencent took a 26% stake for EUR 1.16 billion.

Bulls Say, Bears Say

Bulls

Ubisoft’s deal with Tencent leaves allows it to maintain control of 75% of its biggest games, while also receiving cash and a royalty stream. The joint venture’s valuation implies negative value to the rest of Ubisoft’s business.

Bears

Ubisoft’s franchises have been losing popularity, and the firm needs to continually produce new hits to keep sales growing.
